Bog wood is a material obtained from trees that have been buried in peat bogs, safeguarded from decay by the acidic and anaerobic bog conditions, sometimes for hundreds or even thousands of years. The wood often acquires a brownish stain due to tannins dissolved in the acidic water.

Irish bog wood typically ranges in age from 3000 to 8000 years old. During a historical period when the Irish climate was warmer and drier, the roots of these trees lost their grip in the waterlogged soil and fell to the ground as the climate shifted to a wetter and damper era. The centuries-long process of the oak residing in the earth leads to a transformation in color from golden-brown to complete blackness. No two pieces of wood will ever have exactly the same coloration.

Just as each piece of bog wood is unique, every piece of jewellery is meticulously handcrafted to be entirely bespoke, resulting in a rustic finish. Designed with care, each item is lightly brushed with linseed oil to enhance the oak's rich colour.
